Welcome! This page is all about strange things we find in Golden Eye. We all know the Rare team: always putting in strange things, that have no purpose whatsoever, if not something totally wacky that is completely unexplainable (strange sightings in the multiplayer levels, for example). Anyhow, if you have any mysteries to report or to unveil, or if you simply want to give your opinion on some weird theory, just e-mail me.

GoldenFile #00001 - Golden Island (SOLVED)
Mystery:
If you take your Sniper Rifle and aim at it from the docks in the Dam level, you can see a strange island on the other side of the lake with a guard tower and a gun turret. It is unreachable, so what purpose does it serve?
GoldenFile #00001 / Golden Island
Explanation:
This is a manifestation of what we call "BETA". It's scrap data that the programmers have originally decided to put in the game, but were later thrown off for memory reasons, licenses and coherence... The island was originally to be accessed by a green boat at the dock to fulfill an objective (probably to pick up some equipment). But the programmers, abandoned it because it was totally useless and uninteresting. If you use a GameShark, however, you can access it, but there isn't anything to do there (there isn't even any clipping left).

GoldenFile #00002 - Citadel & Casino (SOLVED)
Mystery:
The Citadel and the Casino are highly secret RUMORED levels hidden deep in the game. Not much is known about them.
Explanation:
These two levels have been proven FAKE! Once again we have to do with BETA. They were perhaps early on stages that were replaced with better ones even before they were playable. The only clues that we have about the Citadel, are two data strings "Citadel" & "CITADEL" and a black & white picture of the mission objective screen that you can view using a debug code for a gameshark. We speculate that it would have been instead of the Egyptian level and that Mayday and Odjob would have been in it. There are plenty of fake screen shots of mission objectives and even some from a level! Up to now, all screen shots and reports of actually finding the level have proven fake.
As for the Casino, it probably would have been in the Silo's place. If you remember well, there never was a Silo scene in the Golden Eye Movie. Also, using a gameshark, we can here too, find traces of it: GoldBar, Token, Camera. Apparently, you would have to place some cameras around, you would meet with Xenia (which explains why she says: "This time, Mr. Bond the pleasure will be all mine!" in the Jungle - you never actually meet her), you would have some allies and you would even have to defuse a bomb. The level was probably to boring so they replaced it by "the more exciting Silo".
No comment from Rare.

GoldenFile #00003 - Silo's air ducts
Mystery:
This one is hard to spot out. In the silo level, right at the beginning, look down behind you, on the wall. Do you see some transparent girding? It's an air duct! And it's quite big! Can you do anything there?
GoldenFile #00003 / Silo's air ducts
GoldenFile #00003 / Silo's air ducts
˝Theory, ˝Explanation:
Apparently, by using a gameshark, you can enter it and look around. It's a hallway connecting to a small room with a gigantic fan on the ceiling, identical to the one in the Archives, the room where Natalia is being kept! We speculate that you would start in that place and then climb a ladder to the existing starting point. I don't see why Rare would ever want to take this part away: How on earth would you ever start at the bottom of a missile silo in a dead end!

GoldenFile #00004 - Strange Commander
Mystery:
At first, it doesn't seem very important but after playing a real long time, you sort of wonder why Rare bothers to put them in. Plus there are only ever three in the game: One in the Dam level, Carrying a DD44 Dostovei, one in a house in "Surface 1" carrying a Klobb and another in "Bunker 1" with a PP7.
GoldenFile #00004 / Strange Commander
Theory:
There are plenty of theories, but two stand out more: Some people think that he was a good guy and you had to talk to him to get the Covert Modem, others think that, like in the army, there have to be commanders, running the place, and that they were just put in for realism. Either way, the commander gives an interesting aspect to the game...

GoldenFile #00005 - Strange Trapdoor!
Mystery:
I noticed this from the first day I bought the game. The trapdoor next too the Russian Soldier in the hut where the commander is on the Dam level is quite perplexing.
GoldenFile #00004 / Strange Trapdoor
Theory:
I don't have a clue here. No leads - plain mystery. But it's not as if it does not serve a purpose, no, this sort of thing isn't put in there for fun - especially where it is. It's got too be something...!

GoldenFile #00006 - Xenia's past (SOLVED)
Mystery:
Apart from being in the movie, there really isn't much importance to Xenia - as far as the game goes. The only time you meet her is in the Jungle and the only thing she does as Janus's follower is steel the chopper - but you never see her. So why does she say "This time, Mr. Bond, the pleasure is all mine..." in the Jungle?
GoldenFile #00006 / Xenia's past
Explanation:
This solved mystery comes and backs up the Casino level rumor: That you will have to meet with Xenia. Then we would understand why Xenia says "This time, Mr...". As for Frigate, Xenia is not on bored (not physically in the game - that is), so the briefing is somewhat false!

GoldenFile #00007 - Spyder/Shotgun/Taser
Mystery:
Certain guns also carry mysteries around with them too. The Spyder, is in fact the Klobb, it was renamed after Ken Lobb. But the most perplexing mystery is this: Why the hell a regular Shotgun and a Automatic Shotgun? And What's up with the Taser?
GoldenFile #00003 / Silo's air ducts
GoldenFile #00003 / Silo's air ducts
Explanation:
I'm giving it an explanation because we may never know why this is so. I've frankly got to say that the Shotguns are just messed up!!!!!!! First of all, they barely are shotguns, they shoot like regular guns: without recharging after every shot. Secondly, if you use the cheat all guns, you'll have access to another shotgun, the regular one. As far as I'm concerned, they look practically alike and shoot the EXACT same way. So what's the point of even putting this stupid weapon in the game in the first place? It really only appears in two levels, and it isn't very strong. While were at it, let's talk about the Taser. It too is a hidden weapon and it also frankly sucks (apart for the appearance - mega cool looking!!!). It's like a remote control that is so precise and slow that hitting a target is hard (you can't hit an opponent with it if you don't aim manually).

GoldenFile #00008 - Hidden Silo Elevator
Mystery:
This is probably the best hidden and hardest to spot out mystery in the game. In one of the silo's silos is an unreachable passageway like the ones you usually take. If you look carefully, you can see yellow tape through the door and a guard standing opposite to the door. What on earth is this.
GoldenFile #00008 / Hidden Silo Elavator
Theory:
We have confirmation: it's an unusable elevator (using gameshark codes to blow up the fake door in front of the presumed elevator and to start in the guards place, we have seen it). Could this have connected to the end elevator or the air ducts (GoldenFile #00003) in a BETA version?
No, I've concluded that It's impossible. The Golden Eye engine is not able to program real-live elevators, and it couldn't have been in a scene because I drew a 3-D Map of the level and noticed that all three possible entrances and exits are located completely opposite of each other! This is very strange, it's an elevator door that is half way in the level, is not accessible, doesn't lead anywhere, and that has been purposely hidden from us by a fake door - very, very, very suspicious!!!

GoldenFile #00009 - Mayday & Odjob
Mystery:
Where the hell is Odjob and Mayday? Why aren't they anywhere in the missions?
GoldenFile #00009 / Mayday & Odjob
Theory:
Odjob and Mayday aren't in any mission! No matter how much you look for them. Two possibilities here: Rare might have wanted to put them in earlier but where later token out form the missions only. Or maybe Rare just created them just to add a few extra villains in multi. We may never know.

GoldenFile #00010 - St-Petersberg Guard & Helicopter Pilot?
Mystery:
Hey, what's this? There's a guard in multiplayer that doesn't appear in any missions! And what about the Helicopter Pilot
GoldenFile #00010 - St-Petersberg Guard & Helicopter Pilot?
GoldenFile #00010 - St-Petersberg Guard & Helicopter Pilot?
Theory:
The St-Petersberg Guard is another character that doesn't appear in missions. However, he definitely wasn't put in just for fun. Strange... It is possible that he was somehow connected with the Citadel and the Helicopter Pilot. As for him, he is nowhere! Most people think that he was to control the Frigate's Helicopter - but it doesn't make any sense! Xena is supposed to steel it. Is he good or bad? Would you have piloted it? Would you have to talk to him or come in some other confrontation? So many questions...

GoldenFile #00011 - More People?!?
Mystery:
Ok, just what is this?! There are even more characters on the not-in-mission list: 3 other civilians a female scientist and female moonraker elite. This is getting frustrating!
GoldenFile #00011 - More People?!?
GoldenFile #00011 - More People?!?
Theory:
Hmmm, this shows how much Golden Eye has been changed and the amount of BETA elements it contains. I just don't know why Rare would put so much energy in this...
GoldenFile #00012 - Ouromov's Briefcase
Mystery:
Hey! Why is Ouromov carrying a briefcase in the Silo?
GoldenFile #00012 - Ouromov's Briefcase
GoldenFile #00012 - Ouromov's Briefcase
Theory:
You can kill Ouromov with the Gold PP7 or the Golden Gun if you shoot him quick enough. When he dies he drops a briefcase and a keycard. For now, NO use has been found for these items. Also, if you look at the items in your subscreen, an extra items appears as a dot; glitch or BETA?
